Central People's Government and Party issue joint statement condemning US Supreme Court; financial support pledged to citizens who must travel for abortions

The Central People's Government of the New Richmond Republic - the collective term for the offices and organs which constitute the NRR's national government - has released a joint statement with the Blair Mountain League regarding the enduring assault on reproductive rights and bodily autonomy in the United States, in particular the recently leaked draft opinion of the US Supreme Court which would overturn Roe v. Wade. The entire statement is reprinted in its entirety below.

The events which have unfolded in the United States over the past week have shocked and saddened the New Richmonder people. The leaked US Supreme Court draft opinion to overturn Roe v. Wade is an unfortunate and painful reminder of many things for us; that American "democracy" is farcical (this decision having been made by an unelected panel of elderly bureaucrats of whom only one-third have wombs), that the paradoxical so-called morality of the capitalists would forbid us from terminating a pregnancy only to force our children to suffer a miserable existence with dwindling access to food and healthcare, and that the material reality of the New Richmond Republic as a micronation limits what we can do to remedy this sorrowful turn of events.

Ask any citizen of the Republic and they can tell you about a friend or family member who struggles to find formula for their baby given ongoing supply shortages (which the capitalists claim are a thing of socialism!). Some of us have had abortions, while most (if not all) of us know and love someone who has. The reasons as to why a person would chose to have an abortion are relevant only to them; it is the inalienable right of a person to make that choice. Abortions can be life-saving for those who chose to have them, and any attempt to legally prohibit them will not make them go away; they will only sever safe access to them, in turn leading to the deaths of many who had no other recourse but to risk it all.

The Central People's Government of the New Richmond Republic and the Blair Mountain League - with one resolute voice - condemns the Supreme Court of the United States and the entire American state apparatus with the utmost contempt. The lands of our Republic are surrounded on all sides by the United States and all of our citizens are also American citizens; moreover, we are surrounded by so-called "red states" which are likely to ban abortion in the event of the draft opinion becoming law. The Ministry of Economic Development and Fiscal Affairs will direct money from the National Development Fund to any citizen who requires an abortion to help cover the cost of travel and lodging in a state where abortions are legal; furthermore, the District of Fayette welcomes citizens from other regions who desire to undergo tubal ligation given the district's proximity to clinics that offer the procedure without judgement (of which, in the vicinity of our Heartland in the east, there are none).

The New Richmond Republic stands in solidarity with women and others who are now in fear for their right to chose. We cannot change this situation, but we can come together and help each other like we always have. ​
