![]() Armaroja, a parcel of land in California, has been annexed as the first unincorporated territory of the New Richmond Republic. The territory, comprising nearly nine acres of grassland, was gifted to the Republic by Citizen-Premier Sophia Albina of the Republic of Nordale as a sign of the fraternal bonds between the New Richmonder and Nordalian peoples as members of the New Virginian multinational community. The annexation of Armaroja is historic as it is the first land claim of the Republic outside of the Appalachian and Kentucky Bluegrass regions, as well as the first unincorporated territory annexed under the recently-adopted federal system. Unincorporated territories are defined by the Basic Law as uninhabited swathes of land under the total sovereignty of the Republic without being incorporated into the Cantons or subject to their own sovereignty; they should not be confused with counties, which were formerly called territories prior to federalization. Territories are governed by territorial administrators appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, and though no announcement has been made yet, it is expected that the Prime Minister and Home Minister, the respected Comrade General Chris Faine, will appoint Ms. Albina to serve as administrator of Armaroja.
The annexation marks the first public diplomatic interaction between the NRR and Nordale since the Prarial Peace - the treaty between the two micronations - was unsuspended last month by Prime Minister Faine. The People's Commissioner of the Republic, the respected Mother Hewitt, was quoted as saying that NRR-Nordalian relations "have never been stronger."
