The New Richmond Republic has been admitted to the Grand Unified Micronational as an observer state.
The Grand Unified Micronational (or GUM) is an intermicronational organization which describes itself as "the world’s leading intermicronational organization" and has been a staple of the MicroWiki community since its establishment on the 5th of January 2009. The stated goals of the GUM are to promote communication and cooperation between its members, organize multilateral projects, and assist micronationalists in the development of their skills.
Premier Brooklyn Hewitt, in her capacity as Minister for Foreign and Military Affairs, signed treaties of mutual recognition and formal diplomatic relations with the leaders of the Republic of Nordale and the State of Shoreline yesterday.
The two nations are notable for their shared history with the NRR - all three were previously under the sovereignty of the Commonwealth of New Virginia, and served as hotbeds of revolutionary activity. New Richmond and Shoreline were additionally former possessions of the Empire of Austenasia prior to the New Virginian secession in February 2020. The treaties follow a decree of the Central Executive Committee which granted the leaders of Nordale and Shoreline - Sophia Albina and Elizabeth Lewis, respectively - the Order of the July Revolution, the Republic's highest honor.
The Mountaineer is the Republic's leading newspaper, reporting on events in New Richmonder politics and society. The paper also occasionally reports on events throughout the broader New Virginian sector, such as from Nordale or the Commonwealth of New Virginia.
