People's Senate
The People's Senate of the New Richmond Republic is the judicial organ of the Central People's Government. The People's Senate is the only court within the Republic and is charged with hearing all cases - civil, criminal, and military - at the federal, cantonal, and local levels. Prior to the enactment of the Second Basic Law on the 11th of August 2022 (2RY), the People's Senate was known as the People's Tribunal.
The presiding officer and chief judge of the People's Senate is the Consul of Justice, who is elected by the Congress of People's Councils for an indefinite term. Additional judges known as Tribunes are elected by the Congress and may preside over cases in their own right.
Since the 4th of September 2022 (2RY), the office of Consul of Justice has been held by the respected Comrade K. Riley Hewitt.
